| Hi all,
I have a 1992 Accord Wagon with a stock configuration of 6 speakers. 5 1/4" up front, 6x9" in rear cargo area and 3 1/2" in the rear ceiling.
Currently I have Infinity Reference 552i 2ways in the front (with plans to upgrade to something like the Infinity Kappa 50.7cs components up front) and Alpine Type S 69C3 3ways in the cargo area. The ceiling speakers are still stock.
I'm trying to find a suitable 3 1/2" speaker set for the rear that will match my current or potentially future configuration. I'm facing two problems.
First, clearance....the stock speakers in my car are all ridiculously shallow. The max clearance I have right now without spacers is about 1.5" depth. I could put some spacers together and maybe squeeze another .25" to .5" of depth, but the more space I have between the magnet and the car the better. So I figure I'm looking for a speaker with a maximum depth of about 1.75" (MAX)
Second, sensitivity....my front Infinity Ref's are rated at 92db (and the Kappa comps I want are 94db) my rear Alpine's are also 92db. So I need something that falls in the same range of sensitivity. Several of the speakers I've looked at are rated around the 86-89db range which is no good.
I can get either Infinity Ref 3022CF or Kappa 32.7CF as they have respective 91.7db and 95db ratings. The Ref is 1-7/16" depth which would be perfect, and the Kappa 1-11/16" which is getting to be a little too much.
It seems like I should just get the Refs as they are fairly close in sensitivity and have a nice, shallow depth......but I've heard nothing about them at all that makes them seem like great speakers. I've heard positive things about the Kappa's but I don't want to just stick with Infinity because I can't think of anything else.
My budget is around the $80-$120 range as these speakers are just rear fill and I already have way too much sound coming from the back right now anyways (I really need to upgrade my front stage)
My plan is to eventually amplify all my speakers, I have a Rockford Fosgate Punch RX300 4 channel I would like to use to power the Alpine's and whatever front speakers I end up with (everything is currently running off of my Panasonic CQ8400U headunit) and a Pioneer GM3200T 2 channel I'll probably use to run these ceiling speakers. There is currently some kind of high pass crossover setup from the rear 6x9s to the ceiling speakers so I'll have to be sure to tune it all once I have them on separate amps and wires.
Please give me some suggestions, thoughts and/or opinions. Even on what front setup I should get or my amp plans.
Thanks in advance
