How it sounds, how it works matters most -- but no one really cares, the general public just follows marketing and what is "supposed" to be better -- God bless them and the money they will spending more gear to replace the crap gear that is "supposed" to be better because more marketing dollars were spent on it.
I recently looked at a line of European products that actually seem to be quite good and really made in Europe -- but sadly I know there is no point -- I don't have the marketing dollars required to make it "cool". |
I for the most part agree Mike. All things being equal though (performance wise), I would rather sell (and buy) a product that has a history/heritage of clearly defined values regarding R&D, construction materials and production standards.
There is a great book called NO LOGO, written by Naomi Klein. A revealing read of corporate America and how branding has become more important than the product itself. I'll bring it down next trip if you have not already read it.
