I think you are wrong on the hard drive send in as they sell the disk retail and no notes on sending your unit in.How ever looking at a few links the MDV-08D was the last for are model

So 2.2 is the new version I wonder what was changed.I hope it did not stop from people going to service mode and stuff like that.
