to start it all off im currently running a pioneer avic-f900bt going to an earthquake xtreme 900w.5 amp. its powering 2-way 5" pioneer premier components rated at 130w max for my front stage and 2-way 4" pioneer coaxials rated at 120w max and pioneer ts-sw251 10" shallow mount sub rated at 200w nominal and 800w max in a shallow sealed box thats very close to the recommended factory box specs. i also ran a couple extra wires for ground, stinger and lightning audio gold plated batter terminals, monster cable rca's, and stinger wiring for everything else. also a optima redtop for the battery.

now im wondering if any of my components it too much or too little for the rest of the system. i dont need ridiculously loud sound but i do want something reasonably loud but still has good SQ. i also want decent bass. right now im debating on going with the previous gen JBL GTO 5-channel amp and a 10" JBL GTO shallow mount dual voice coil sub thats rated at 250w nominal and 1000w max. i know very little about audio but i do know more than your average consumer. any help from the experts would be greatly appreciated.

hey
I think you have more than enouph power. It will def get the job done and have power to spare. You can even go for a bigger sub if you wanted. You can run a 400 watt sub of of that amp on top of all the speakers, id put something like a kicker CVT 12 in ther.
Just make sure you have the gain turned down fairly low for the speakers or else u will prob blow them cuz uve got about 130 rms x4 for the speakers

thanks for the advice. thats exactly why i was thinking of going with the jbl thats less powerful. so i dont blow my speakers at the same time i can get a sub to match the amp. unfortunately i have very little to no trunk space and the 10" is already grabbing more than enough room.

im not an expert but.. what kind of vehicle is this going into? so we know how much of a tight squeeze, even a shallow mount 10" sub has, in a trunk.
sweet deck though, my buddy just had that put in his celica last summer and i really liked the display.

I would suggest ugrading your front stage before you change anything else.

If you have your fronts HPF around 120hz or so you are more likely hearing the effect of a lack of mid-bass, not sub-bass. Those smaller mids generally lack much output below 90hz or so (now before the yelling starts...., there are exceptions to that rule but they tend to be expensive and have foreign sounding names...... ) and a larger driver can dig enough lower to blend better with your subs. The lack of the first order harmonic of your sub output really does a number on the over-all sound and I would put a 6.5" comp set up front first that I could Xover at 80-90hz instead.

If you like the sound of the comps you have now you could also install dedicated MB drivers, but that tends to get more expensive than the first option.

Either way you choose, you have now reached the point in the development of your system that you will need to fill the gap between the fronts and the sub in particular to take the system to the next level......

PM me if you would like some help doing this.

Welcome to the addiction......
