| since its pretty cold right now in Toronto, I'm going to guess you checked the voltage while the motor was cold... It will drop down to somewhere around 14 volts once it warms up with the adjacent heat from the engine.
If I remember correctly the ability to conduct electricity is a function of temperature, so your alternator puts out a higher voltage and current when it is cold.
Or something to that effect. Let the engine warm up fully and then check it.
