i just hooked my eclipse nav unit myself and i have not even hooked up a sub to it yet. just the four speakers are running off the unit right now.
thing is when i turn the volume up to about 70-75(80 is max), the unit turns off by itself and turns on again.
i noticed this happens mainly during songs with heavy basses. i changed the battery but same thing. am scared of what is going to happen when i hok up my amp and sub.
could it be the power wire or ground or what?
thanks in advance guys.

internal amp may be overheating... why are you listening to it at 75, when the max is 80? don't drive it so hard, you're most likely clipping the internal amp in the unit.

^^^^Listen to this guy.

On a side note my Pioneer goes to 62 but starts to sound like crap at 50 with most music. Sometimes music is recorded at a lower volume, some Pink Floyd albums for example, which is when you would need that extra headroom on your volume control.

Same thing with my kenwood head unit, either turn it down or setup external amplification!

If the unit is turning on and off as in the whole deck is powering down for a second, then I would grab my multimeter and check that the acc and constant 12v are maintaining atleast 11v when in use. Also check my ground.

If they are not then I would run new wires from the ignition for the constant and acc.

I have seen it quite a few times that factory wiring just loses power.

that's quite possible, but still shouldn't be listening to it that loud...

I had that exact issue when I installed my first deck. Sounds like your power wires are crossed, you have the (acc-on to the power,) and the (power to the acc-on.) check the power wires for the NAV unit, I'd bet they're just backwards.
