| Hi guys:
Currently i've a 1000 RMS amp and 2 subs ; each are 500 RMS.
As you can see the amp is 500 RMS over the subs .
Now the question is , if I upgrade the 2 subs to let say 1000 RMS each , will the amp be affected ? will the amp get over heated ? will the amp blow up ? long term damage or some bad similar thing ?
I whant to get more power in terms of loudness ; I tought if I change the subs it will louder.
Thanks for the input. |

| without ferther info, your current configuration is perfect, amp puts out what the subs can handle
if you want to go louder, you need a better box
after that is done if it still isn't loud enough then you would need to replace everything |

| if the 1000 watt amp is powering two 500 watt speakers, then its right where it needs to be 500x2=1000
what is the voice coil configuration of the subs and what is the 1000 watt amp?...specs on the equipment would help here.

| Come up with a game plan here. Know what it is you are wanting to accomplish. If the goal is good sound or getting loud. Keeping existing equipment or adding to it. Always list the vehicle, the installed equipment, type of box etc. so that a proper response can be given for your questions. If you are arbitrarily purchasing equipment, you are also arbitrarily hoping that it will work with what you have. 50% chance of that not happening, so lets get you started on the right path here.

If you add more amps with your stock alternator, your system will not get louder at all, and you will lose your alt very soon. You need to consider many angles.
In theory, more subs = more output. But if you underpower the subs, they will not perform optimally. Also, depends on quality of subs. I have heard many good single subs put two cheesier subs to shame in sound quality and output.
See what your amp puts out in what configuration(ohms), and see if your subs are wired correctly. If all is correct, and you are still not happy, you may add more subs, if possible, but chances are they may have to be cheesier, so if you try to push those subs at loud volumes, they will probably bottom out, and distort ahead of time, or something. So your system will play pretty good at moderate volumes, but if you push it hard, it will sound like poo. This is not a fact, but a speculation. But before you consider getting more amps, you need to beef up your electrical. No use having more amps, if you cant feed them properly.
If you are using right equipment, installed properly, I highly doubt you will need more than two subs to go deaf, and still get excellent sound quality.

| If you just want right equipment brands suggestions and go loud, and still keep decent sound quality, I suggest getting two subs to run of monoblock, which puts out full power at two ohms.
Subs that go loud and clean, which I really like are TREO or Digital Designs. They are tried tested and true.
Amps are not as critical, but I urge you to check around SPL forum here to get prefered brand names.
This would cover your bass needs. Sell your existing gear, if needed, and put the money towards good equipment.

| Use one large amp (depending on the vc arrangement of your subs) to drive the 4 subs if possible. Upgrade the wiring to 0 gauge for sure, all power and ground lines.
