I'm getting a minor amount of hiss coming from my car audio gear and can't seem to figure out if this is normal!

System is Eclipse CD7100 w. IP06 w. 30GB iPOD > Front/Read outs to an Alpine MRV-345 > Focal KP100 & KBE165 ~ NF out to MRD-M605 > two JL Audio 10w1's

All 12 gauge speaker wires and RCA's run down the center console on the drivers side and the 4 gauge power runs down the passenger side of the center console.

The is no noise at all except a small amount of hiss between the 65 to 74 volume range!

Any thoughts?

The drivers side crossovers are under the dash and the passenger side crossovers are in the glove box with the ip06 and ipod.

I can't remember if the sound was there with my 5 year old kenwood deck. All I know is it was there more when I was running a single rca out to and EQL then to a OVERDRIVE!

Still puzzled....

Try lowering the gains on the amp.

AAAAAAAAAAA - I totally forgot about that. My gains are around at 2.0volts(half) on both 1/2 & 3/4. The Sub amp is 2.5.

I'll try it but looks like my 4channel isn't nearly powerful enough to go as loud as I want the Focals to play!

Upgrade time ? - $hit I just finished the damn car! LOL - Audison maybe! Hmm Dunno!

Cheers

Julian

is it all sources (CD, aux, Radio) or just aux? is the hiss there with the ipod on or off? Did you adjust SVC? is this something you can EQ out...?

This HU has a lot of output voltage so the amps gain should be set fairly low to get full power from the amp... your problem does not appear to be power supply or ground related.

Also it is possible that the speaker output is providing EMI for the RCA ... not probable but possible

I don't know what your problem is, but I'll bet it's hard to pronounce.

The hiss is only noticeable when the music itself is quiet. Areas like fade up or downs. I've only noticed it off the iPOD so far since that is my main source. I'll test CD's and the radio is tough to test since I try not to play any stations at loud volumes.

SVC is off. EMI what is that? EQ is set under flat in some areas. SP playout is 3way and BASS/MID/TREB are flat.

Thanks John

I have noise issues with my XM Delphi plugged in and powered by the cigarete lighter, if I turn off the Delphi unit or unplug it from the cigarette lighter the noise gos away... my issue does not sound like your issue, I am trying to find if the source of the noise is the source (ipod) or the after the HU (if there is noise in aux with the ipod off). If you go in EQ and the noise varies with your HF adjustment then the source is prior to or at the HU, if the noise is independant of the HU controls it is after the HU.

EMI- An abbreviation for electromagnetic interference. EMI is the interference in signal transmission or reception caused by the radiation of electrical and magnetic fields. Power, speaker cables, power to heated seats, fans, etc can do this.

OK an update I found a few quiet moments late at night and did some testing, remember I have the same HU, while on Aux with the XM turned off above 65 on the volume scale there was a slight HF hiss with a mild pulse in it, I unplugged the Delphi XM unit from the cigarette lighter and the noise was barely audible at 72 and the pulse was gone. I then disconnected my 'digital amp' and now the hiss was nearly inaudible but it was still there. The volume of the hiss varied with volume position

So my conclusion is the HU has an extremely low volume hiss (less then a tube amp BTW) that is inconsequential to me since I dont use that much of the volume range. But the add ons (the digital amp and the Delphi unit just plugged in) adds enough noise to ad an edge to the sound that is audible and could be distracting at high volumes. Turning the Delphi on adds quite a bit of noise to the system. My theory, DC power supply noise.

Looks like the hiss is only coming from the ip06 with ipod attached.

Johnny, I have a question for you about the 3way vs, 4spk & NF.

I have to increase my gains on my sub amp when in 3 way mode. When I change it back to 4spk & nf. My sub gain has to be drop to 4volt from 1.0

Very drastic change in gain outputs.

I thought this deck was 8volts?

Thanks

Julian
