i have a pretty good understanding of voltage and electrical circuts but i dont understand how increasing the resistance of a speaker circut increses the output of an amp. why are people running .5 ohm resistance? wouldnt it make more sense to run one big amp and one big speaker? if it is, for some reason an advantage to be running more resistance can i just add a resistor inline?

.5 ohms is less resistance than 1ohm (or 2 or 3 or 4 etc). Most amps put out more power as you [u]drop[u] resistance so it can be benefical to tap into that extra potential.

so you are saying that it will get louder the more speakers i add? do i add 2 or 3 subs on the same channel? or do i add in artificial resistance to one sub?

DO NOT USE 'ARTIFICIAL' RESISTANCE. Are you wondering about wiring door speakers or subwoofers?

either, im just wondering how these work. why doesnt someone make a .000001 ohm speaker? make sense? this theroretecially should push the best amp to its maximum capacity.

Depending on the construction of the amp most are only stable down to one ohm. If you drop the resistance below what it is stable at and you can damage the amp. When shopping for amps you want to look at how much power it can produce and into what resistance. If you check an amps ratings you will find the minimum load you can present it.

Yeah, what this guy said. Presenting an amp with .0000000000001 ohms is basically a dead short which will wreak some havoc
