it seems like there is an infinate amount of choices in speakers and amps and head units. i figure this technology has been around long enough that the chinese economy must have replicated the latest and greatest and must have done this for several generations of amps? makes sense right? seems i can buy a 2600 watt "clif design" amp for 100$ from ebay or xs cargo. why wouldnt i run out and buy this to drive my subs? do they make scratchy sounds? do the have a short life? do they utilize voltage differently? do they make noise when you start or shut off your car?

There are a lot of factors to consider like build quality, efficiency, sound quality, technological innnovation, import tariffs, branding and warranty, among many other factors.

Look for actual power charts of amps and other graphs (google). You get what you pay for. Buy used, and you can get good 1500-3000W amps for $200-500.

<random related question> Which is a better amp an Alpine PDX 1.1000 or a JL 1/1000 v2??? efficiency? sound quality? power output? I know that alpine wins the size battle (if smaller is a good thing). cost is similar...

The JL.I`m no fan but I do know it is better built,Sounds better, better with heat(that cast heatsink works vary well)It`s a old design revamped so I would say it is more stable

Efficiency I would say they are close

Power I would say par as they are both throttled back

Another thing Alpines speaker wires are cool but come on!next year they change it then down the road you can`t get them. Not new thing here, many have done in the past but we see in the long run why it don`t work.
