between the basket and motor on a dd 9512F is the plastic ring there for any ofer purpose but spacing? i was thinking of making one out of aluminum with matchin grooves of the face of the motor to help cool it but i wasn't sure if there was a reason it was plastic

its just for spacing. you can just drill holes in the plastic ring if you really want more cooling. dont think its neccessary tho.
