ipod connection problem

Hey guys,
right now i have an alpine cda-9887 deck with the full speed ipod connector. I have an 80 gig ipod classic and have been using them both for a while now without problems.

So yesterday i go to turn on my deck and get the music flowing but now it doesnt work. Usually the ipod screen boots up with the apline logo etc. and i can search for music on the deck. Now the ipod functions normally as you can move through menus and do whatever and the deck forever displays 'searching' for ipod signal.

The thing is, the ipod still will charge through the deck, and the deck knows an ipod is connected. If nothing is connected, it says 'no ipod' as opposed to just 'searching'.

So it was pretty much completely out of the blue and not really sure whats going on here.
Any help is appreciated

Thanks
