Can someone explain to me the logic behind disabling them?
People may have a question that other people would like answered?
Or may want to instantly warn of a post from a scammer, instead of PMing a Moderator and Hoping they are near a computer before anyone gets scammed.

Something about threads getting off-topic..

If they go off-topic lock them, that's what mods are for. If it's to much for them, get new mods. It's a real easy job to lock a topic... I think we should be able to post. Not like my opinion matters though, it's what matters to the staff.

We tried that for a while and it just became too much of a hassle.

Guys, it's not like we've just decided this on a whim. There has been a lot of discussion about this by the mods and the end result is that you guys just can't help yourselves from crapping on eachothers threads.

It's not a matter of it being too much for the mods but more that we aren't baby sitters. If you guys can't play nice we take your toys away.

Just send a PM to the guy if you want more info. It's just as easy as hitting the reply button.

This is also something that I can't understand.. I mean is it really that big of a deal that threads get off topic? This IS a discussion board, and things will be discussed.. It's really too bad that the mods feel this way as I feel it hurts the classifieds and the overall quality of this board.. I won't be using them nearly as much as if there was open discussion.. So, is this better in the long run? To be honest, I'm sick of buying stuff out of the states, paying duties, exchange, etc., but at least on the american forums there's free discussion in the classifieds and we can openly ask questions and talk about the products for sale.. Honestly, that's why I came here in the first place, looking to keep my dollars in Canada and save myself some hassles, but because of the way the classifieds are run, I'm sad to say that I will still be buying out of the states, OR until I can find another Canadian forum with a different policy, since having open discussion in the forums seems much more comfortable/safe to me.. Again, I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way..

I personally feel that the current policy over the classifieds here reminds me of censorship in a way and is counter-productive to keeping the lines of communication open.. I know, I know, PM.. Sorry, but it's just not the same.. And I KNOW that I'm not the only one who feels this way, since these threads keep popping up..

Anyways, sorry to rant, but I've wanted to say how I feel about this ever since I signed up.. It doesn't look like this policy is going to change any time soon, which is really too bad for the community as a whole.. Seems like a great board otherwise, but I'm sorry to say I will be taking my business for used equipment elsewhere, which unfortunately is also going to prevent me from making this my new 'home' which is ultimately what I was hoping to find here.. I run a couple of boards myself, and while I can somewhat understand the desire to keep threads on topic, I would never dream of making the whole community suffer for the actions of a few.. There are other ways of fixing a problem rather than throwing down a blanket policy like this.. Why not ban certain USERS from replying in the classifieds if they can't behave rather than punishing everybody in general? vBulletin is some of the best and most powerful forum software available, and this would be very easy to implement..

That's all, I'm out..

The big problem we had was people flaming sellers, someone would say I have 2 subs for $150 and someone else would reply well you can get them on eBay for $100. We warned people about it and it kept happening so we just opted to take away the reply function, if you want something from someone send them a PM it just as easy take the exact same click of a mouse.... sorry guys but thats the way is going to be, dont get mad at us mods, get mad at the people who wrecked it and forced us to take these measures.

Mod's aren't there to babysit us. We're all grown ups we can surely act like one.

I also think it's stupid that we can't reply. I am trying to find some stuff but I am not really gonna look really hard here because I have to send a PM which isn't really differant but if he/she didn't mention location, somebody else could ask that and it would save 10 pm's from differant people asking where he/she lives.

I dunno I think it's stupid. At a canadian gun forum, it's the same thing and now there isn't as much stuff for sale.

Sucks
