ok here is the deal I was running WIn XP home and upgraded to WINXP professional but when I did I no longer have the option of using PPPoE, when I go to the setup internet connection the onlyoption I have is broadband connection that is always on the dialup and PPPoE options are faded out.
I upgraded from a coppied CD any suggestions on how toget this working properly again?

go to control panel
add network connection
open new connection wizard
check connect directly to the internet
check maanual input with user name and password
should get you there
its easy in xp should take no more than a minute to set it up

you need the provider add
which is sympatico.ca
then your user name and password

I can only assume you mean
1)contole panel
2)network and internet connections
3)setup and change internet connection
4)connect to the internet
5)Setup my connection manualy
6)connect using a broadband connection that requires a username and password (otherwise called PPPoE) wich is the option that is greyed out

Soo click on network Connections, then click n Create Connection, when that window comes up the select Connect to the internet, SETUP MY CONNECTION MANUALLY, if you don't have it still then remove whatever active connections you have now like previous dialup/dsl/cable connectins if you still can't check and make sure you have full permisions even though XP pro some settings are fully allowed.

I have no other connections and I am an administrator so I have full permissions

I looked in my system event viewer and I am getting the information "The Remote access connection manager service entered the stopped state"
and the error "Remote access manager failed to start because it couldnot create buffers. restart the computer"
they come repeatedly, and yes I did restart the computer.
Thanks for the help

i think what you are doing is trying to use sympatico software to set it up right?
if that the case its not required
just do as i said in my post and it will work
you are using a netwok card right?

You could always get a broadband router, and not have to worry about pppoe settings in windows Not worthwhile unless you want to share your internet connection though..

I might just get a router
