We just bought my dad a laptop for his birthday. The little scroll area on the mouse pad does not work in Firefox. It works in every other program, including IE. When you try and use it in Firefox the icon on the screen changes like it should and everything, it just doesn't scroll, is there a setting somewhere that I have to change?

hmm i woulda ssume it has to do with the touchpad drivers....whether they're synaptics touchpad or whatever, i'd delete and try reinstalling them, or simply check the mouse settings in the control panel

I checked the mouse settings in the control panel. It seems to be a problem strictly in Firefox.

I believe there is an extension for this that allows an adjustable scroll sensitivity. Had to put it onto this old POS laptop I use in the bay to keep the browser from freaking out when I used the scroll wheel on the mouse.....

I think it was called smoothwheel or smoothscroll.

HTH
