| Well, my buddy and I just picked up a 305 Chevy engine from school. I'm guessing it'll need rings or to be rebored.
Got most everything with it, intake, heads, carb (rochester quadra jet 4bb)distributor...
We had to pull it through the snow and manhandle it around so it may have some snow inside.. uh oh. well.. Can it harm it? I think we'll be tearing it down when the snow melts..
Think I'mma put it in a 96 F150. |

I coulda took a 350 but we dont know what its like inside. at least we know that the 305 has no cracks inside.
was thinking about buying the stroker kit for the 305, would bring it to 340. |

| You'll want to read this: Car Craft magazine builds a 325 horsepower 305 small block Chevy V8
That article is a few years old now and Vortech-specific parts aren't as expensive as they used to be so there shouldn't be so much monkeying around as they did. Or, get the World Product S/R heads with the 58cc chamber. 58cc chambers are meant for 305s. Regular 350 parts sometimes don't work all that well on 305 blocks due to the smaller bore of the 305, but there are some small-bore specific performance parts out there.
Since it was tossed around and what-not, you'll want a machine shop to magnaflux the block and heads to find any cracks that may have occured. Get them hot-tanked too.

| A lot of people swear by the 3-0-fried's and how much power they can potentially make.
Personally, i belive a 350 is a waaaaaaaaaaay stronger and better engine then the good ol chev 3-0-fried.
but thats just my opinion. im a chev guy and have had 1 305, and many 350's, just think the 305's are weak...lmao
either way, theres enouph parts available for both engines.
and you should still be more then happy with it over a Ford POS.

| Ive seen vortec 305's take on 350's... You might not get this engine that good but im sure you'll learn a thing or two in the process and it will be pretty fun. I shoved a 350 into my 1989 gmc s15 4x4 truck, and it was pretty fun.
I wouldnt put it into a ford because it could become a living hell, nothing will go easy there (engine mounts, everything else!). I would find some junker car or truck thats a gm product and shove it in there... I highly recommend a s10 or s15, bolts right in (for the 4.6 litre version). You will be able to rip up the streets with ease. |

| IMO There useless ive had my far share of 305s in my s-10 and all they do is grenade why build a 305 when you can buy crate motors less than what it cost to rebuild a motor properly, I know you can build em cheap but you get what you pay for so just buy a crate or spend good money rebuilding a 350. And about that ford I would find a reall truck to put a Bowtie in! |
