Hey i'm new to this whole audio scene. I've come basically to learn about everything and I hope to buy a complete system in a few months. I just wanted to see if I could find some locals from around Sudbury. I just want to know about all the local audio shops and how their service is. Cheers!

Hi,

I am out in Hanmer.

It has been several years since I bought anything from the local shops.
I am not being elitist, but I feel the knowledge level in the local shops
is shameful.

I lived in Toronto for several years, where things were much better, if
you were careful you could get decent advice and products at reasonable
prices.

This is just the way I see it

You can learn alot by reading, and then take it to the next level.. install
the stuff yourself! Trial and error, with a little time, can have great results,
especially when backed by your peers on a great internet forum

Hanmer eh? Well i'm just a rock throw away, i'm out in Blezard. I was planing on doing the install myself, there was just various things I wanted to know with regards to the wiring of the whole system and where I should purchase my parts. I just wanted to know if anyone knew about some decent local shops which I could buy or order piece by piece from. Although I priced everything out at onlinecarstereo.com. I'm quite happy with the build, i'm just uncertain about the whole buying over the internet thing as i'm new to car audio. I have no problems ordering online I just want some piece of mind from where i'll be making my purchases. If you purchased anything online where did you buy from?

Just in the last three weeks alone, I bought from Ross Aiken, Roscoe and Smartass right here on the boards, and I have made 3 purchases from eBay, a few at www.partsexpress.com and I have purchased absolutely nothing locally. All of these transactions were great, with no stress. Some of those
parts are still in transit to me, but so far no troubles.

Now, I am all about supporting your local shops, but our local places... Bianco's and Moonrocks offer no respect to a paying customer who knows what he wants. They will gladly sell you what you do not need, at an exaggerated price, and install it for you for an exhorbiant fee, using cheap materials and inexperienced labour They don't know the product, all they care about is commission. I made alot of purchases at Bianco's about a decade ago, from a fellow named Nuno, he would get me what I wanted at a reasonable price. Last I heard, he was selling trucks now at Cambrian Ford hehe.

If there are any particular pieces or parts that you are looking for, I am sure we can find them online, and make the purchase safe for you. It just takes a little care!

Well actually I priced out a complete system from onlinecarstereo.com. I'm pleased with what I see so far from them I just want to know if anyone else has had an experience buying from them. The online shopping cart quoted me 815.75$ shipping to my doorstep for what I want. This is just a HU, front door speakers, tweeters, 6x9's and a 4 channel amp. If anything i'll be putting in a sub or two and another amp come spring time.

I want to buy I just dont want to regret it.

If that's $815 Canadian, expect to pay $915+ once it crosses the border (6.5% duty, +6% GST, plus handling fee and probably some other shipping charges from onlinecarstereo itself)... it adds up pretty quick.

Dont worry about that, I know the whole ordeal. I bought my whole computer piece by piece online and the taxes and all the other bs from the border were experienced first hand. But i'm not even sure if it's us or can dollars. That 815 is well beyond my limits and i'm expecting hidden costs. So if I have to i'll have extra money to dish out for that. I just want a stereo

Cool... As Volke mentioned, you should take a look at some of the sponsors here, they're solid.

Well if you could direct me in where I can find some of these sponsors, that would be great.

Click on "site vendors" which is in the red part near the top of the site with options like User CP, Forum Home... all that jazz. From there you'll see the list and their contact info.
