I am contemplating converting my spare tire well into a sealed enclosure with an inverted driver...Any thoughts/advice on this would be appreciated...

Car : 2001 Cavalier 4 dr
Speaker : Lanzar opti1532D (15") dual 2 ohm
Amp : Lanzar opti2000d (1600rms into 1 ohm)
As for the choice of sealed over ported : I'm looking for a tight precise bass response as opposed to bass with poor attack and decay...
In regards to my choice of inverting the driver : even though it's a 15" woofer, surprisingly it only requires 1.5 cuft for a sealed enclosure and the magnet and basket assembly is aesthetically pleasing so I would like to have it shown...

I'm thinking of fiberglassing the well itself (with a layer of b-quiet between the metal and fiberglass) having a 4" lip over the edge. I will then use "bulldog" epoxy to glue and screw a piece of 3/4 inch mdf to the top of the well onto the lip for speaker mounting....

Any suggestions or advice...

Having built several tire well enclosures, make it out of mdf to fit in the well area, the bass tends to stretch the well overtime and crack when you fiberglass them.

you`ll love the Lanzar subwoofer, I did a install using the Opti1232D inverted and even ported and it plays everything the customer was so happy with the range of music it plays.

Hope this helps

Heres a pic of the install

I guess my question still stands then...

Anyways, your box building strategy should work fine.

Thanks for provoking my thought process , I have now decided to do a ported enclosure.... It will be much more efficient and will play louder and lower..

I would still build some type of a mdf enclosure in the tire well, you lose a bit of useable air space but it will sound better and have better responce.

Just my .02 from previous installs

I just finished a spare tire enclosure for my car. Here is a top and side view. The top has been completely carpeted and I used mdf an inch wide on the bottom to attach the fibreglass mold to it and it is better than no MDF at all. It sounds pretty decent and good enough for me and I get to keep my space!
