| Hi, i just got 2 jl12w3v3's in a sealed box powered by a pg xenon 600.1
now i heard these things different box, different amp (around same power), and different music but they sounded awesome to me, so anyway, i got the 8 ohm version of the sub and wired them so the amp see 4 ohm, was told that was the best thing to do with that amp (same power as two ohm) problem is they sound like crap, not blown or scratchy but at low to mid volume i have like no bass, higher volumes i have way too much bass...not nice tight bass, loose and very boomy..."boingggggg" lol....anyway, im going to measure the box and have a look......are these symptoms of a box thats too small?....any help and or advice would be greatly apprecitated. |

| It just sounds like a JL problem, there new stuff is HORRIBLE!! BUt thats just me..Try a diff box, such as a ported...
.625 cu. ft. / 17.7 liters 18.0 in. x 11.0 in. x 9.0 in.
457 mm x 279 mm x 229 mm 47.8 54.7 0.829
Thats recommended for that sub...(sealed)

| okay, so for anyone who actually reads these things trying to help out the less knowledgable instead bashing their equipment.....
...i measured the inside dimensions of the box jl recommends 1.25 cubed sealed and i have 1.0, and that doesnt include displacement......is this enough "too small" that it will cause the above listed problems? |

| Thing is it's tough to compare when you say you heard them in different box, different amp, and different vehicle probably. You could swap all the audio gear from one vehicle to the next and it will sound different that's just the way it goes.
If JL asks for 1.25cu^ft and you have 1 cube that's not terrible, shouldn't be the main problem causing the poor performance. What deck do you have feeding the amp? I'm assuming you've got it and the amps crossovers/gains properly setup? |

| i understand what you're saying that it wont sound the same, but his sounded great, i at least expect mine to sound "okay".....
...the deck is a premier 880 prs played with the settings for a few hours, goes from sounding bad to really bad...had a jl 12w0 in a proper box with the same set up and it sound pretty good for an old abused sub, i was kinda hoping these would sound at least a little better?? |

| add a pound of fibrefill and try it again. That should give you a virtual box size of 1.2-1.3 cubes. Set all eq's flat, no bass boost and go from there.

| virtual size is what your tricking the subs into thinking. Real size would mean building a new box.
