Well I built a custom box for my kicker 8" sub and am having some problems with the setup. The box is within demensions (lower end of them) for the kicker sub. My problem is that the sub basically 'flaps' and the excusion is far to large for the amount of bass that is coming out. I am wondering what is causing this? Is there a chance that the box not sealing would do it? As well, the box is not a normal square box, it is an 'L' shape. Any help would be appreciated!

as well, I read a bit of the others in this part of the forum and saw a bunch about the use of fiberfill...where do you get it and can you give me more info on it please?

make sure the box is air tight. Check your amps gains, eq settings etc...so you're not overdriving the subs.
Fibrefill or polyfill can be bought at wal-mart in the pillow section, or at any fabric store. It will virtually increase the size of your box by up to 30%, and tends to work better with boxes under 3 cuft. Add approximately 1 pound per cuft for a gain of abut 25% for that size box(I'm assuming it's around .5-1.0 cuft).

So do you fill the entire box with the stuff? I think there is a good chance that the sub box is not sealed properly. I was thinking about putting a real thick layer of silicone on top edge then bolting it back up. WOuld this do the trick? As well, will the stuff be called plyfill/fiberfill at wal-mart?

Have you double checked to be sure that the sub is not out of phase, both inside the box and outside? Also check the voicecoils to be sure that they are in phase.

make sure the box is air tight

fill will help your sub unles the box is not air tight you need to get the box ok 1st

How did you build your box? It should be screwed and glued. Silicone is cheap insurance to be sure of a sealed box. Be sure to use it around the terminal cup it you have one.

Well I definitly found a good part of the problem....the box has a .5cm gap right near the top. F**k I am lazy sometimes. Anyways, the big problem with getting this box sealed is that it is below the parcel lid in my benz and is in super tight clearance with the gas tank. The sheet metal had to be uncurled then bent to fit the sub properly. THis means that the fitment is even harder. So I am going to go get a big tube of silicone and just silicone hte crap out of it until it seals properly. Still wondering about the polyfill....do you fill the whole box with the stuff or just the bottom of it? and what will it be called at wal-mart?

At Wal-Mart the polyfill will be called batting...When you go to the fabric counter (depending on which store you visit) it will more than likely be on a big roll dispenser on the edge of the fabric counter 3 feet above the counter top...
