I guess tuning freq should be between 32-36Hz as someone stated that's an average value for car sub.

Alpine recomended sealed volume 0.5 - 0.8 ft^3

I want deep but tight bass. Someone please help me with this. I need to determine if I want to go with sealed or ported. trunk space is an issue as I like having trunk space. trunk is fairly big and no dynamat (maybe later).

Dude i would go sealed if you want tight bass. I would build to 0.8 then with the dispacement of the driver you will probably end up somewhere around 0.6-0.65cu'. Do you know how to caculate internal box volume

I just caculted your woofers EBP and it is telling me that you would be better with a ported box. I will see what i can work out for you.

would be easier to go for sealed. but I can build a ported one as well.

I was just trying to caculate one on my computer but it was giving me some weird #'s. i would go with a slant back box and stay sealed, it is going to give you you most trunk space

is the sonosub just a round tube with a cupped back

yeah pretty much. I had one before (it was sealed) and sounded just as well as my manufacturer recommended ported box.

I am going to start bulding today and then if don't like it.... I bought a whole MDF sheet. got plenty of wood

So I cut out the end caps yesterday, everything fits and doesn't look half bad

But I still the help to figure out the volume needed and if I need to make a port or not. If yes then which length and diameter port I need for this 10" Type R to pound hard, deep and tight. Anyone?

i think this ported box will work for you.

this is a wedge box, so 20.5" wide
13.5" tall
16.0" base
8.25" top
15.7" Back (cut longer for angles)
cut sides to 12" X 14.5" and then cut to fit.

for the port you can use a 3" Areo port or a 3" circular port
areo port tube length cut to 8.75 and circular port cut to 11.75"

if you need any help let me know, i can probalby build it for you if you have any troubles, get it done in like an hour or so. with carpet.

So I built the tube. 14.5" in length. 15" including the endcaps. 1.5" foam inside wall surround. it's sealed. looks nice. but not sure how it will sound cause I don't have a proper amp for the sub yet. If I don't like it I will build the wedge one you suggested above. oh man, can't wait to have it tested
