My buddy, who did a completly dumbass thing.

A 12" Rockford was in like a 1.0 cf box. He had to make it smaller and smaller for the back of his truck, so he kept cutting it until it would fit in his cab.

I'm pretty sure something like this would ruin the sub? Becaue the box is pretty tiny and it's not even sealed right anymore.

Whoa, Fusionmadsen, I know that some people look negetively on Punch subs, but the Person is asking something TOTALLY different here man!! By making the box smaller and Not proper sealing it will infact make the sub react differently, They make a truck box that displaces the air to mkae up for the space for a reason

Well, if its not completely sealed..it will hurt it but not too bad I'm thinking if theres an air leak. Would be better if he drilled a hole haha.

actually the punch series are not to bad...i installed 2 - 8" punch in a chrysler in a sealed box and they were shaking the clock on the back wall of the house from the front of the house with only 200 watts rms each.

Ya, I don't find them too bad especially for the price. They don't compare to back in the golden day when Fosi's kicked @ss though. Specs and performance seem to change when they start producing them "en mass" for the big box stores.

I believe the 10s are good down to 0.5 cubes and the 12s around 0.85 but that is just off the top of my head. If the enclosure isn't sealed properly, you will definitely be lacking performance. Air leaks defeat the purpose of a "sealed" enclosre.

Well, the good thing about sealed designs is you don't have to get 'real critical' with the box size. Box leaks - that's something else. Tell your friend to take five minutes out and run a bead of silicon along the inside joints. A couple of wads of fibreglass (R12 or R20) will help to recoup the lost volume.

Best,
Mark

To contribute positively, glue the hell out of that box. A leak will in turn reduce bass, make the sub sloppier and overall make it sound like crap. On another note, Rockford does still rock, as long as the product contains the name "Power".

As a sealed box gets smaller the bottom end drops off and it gets peaky in the higher bass. Instead of *thud* you get *BONK!*
