So I am looking at starting my summer project which is building an enclosure for an eventual sub that will be installed.

I mentioned in a previous post that I do not want to sacrifice a lot of storage room in the back of my SUV. I saw a website where the person built his enclosure in the spare wheel well. Looks really great. The only "issue" I have is that living in a climate like Canada (hot and cold extremes), I'm worried about the elements effecting the amp/sub down there.

It was suggested to me to make the enclosure out of fiberglass. I have the following questions:

1) Will a fiberglass enclosure in the spare wheel well be better protection against the elements? Or is wood just as good?

2) How expensive is it to buy fiberglass? I have built a few enclosures from wood, but never out of this stuff.

3) Where can you even BUY fiberglass to do this sort of thing?

4) I have looked for some websites detailing how to do it but couldnt really find anything all that helpful. Does anyone know of any sites that show steps in building a fiberglass enclosure? Does anyone have any advice to share on this?

Thanks a bunch!!

Unless your spare tire well leaks, the box shouldn't be exposed to any elements anyway. If you can fit a wood box of appropriate size into the spare tire well, it may be the better way to go.

Well it's gonna cost you more than wood, that's for sure. Figure on at least $100 - more like $150

Look at Canada411 or the Yellowpages. Just search Fiberglass and your area.

I 'might' have step by step pics of the one I built in my Neon. I'll check tonite.
