Long time ago, I went in there expecting the prices to be cheaper than specialized car audio stores, but I was wrong. Not only are their products overpriced, but they were asking nearly $300 dollars for a custom box with a single port.

If I were you, I would get it done at a car audio shop, their work is reliable, and they know what they are doing. This is not saying that the people at Futureshop don't know what they are doing, but they tend to cut corners (I don't mean on the sub box).

Why don't you build it yourself. Its honestly not that hard. You can go to homedepot and they'll cut the wood for you for like $3. The MDF costs $10 -25 depending on how big you're going. total cost should be around $35.

I have made my own box out of MDF, wen't to Home Depot, had them do the cutting. I can't quote price cause this was a few years ago and I don't rember what I paid but it was over $40 for sure. Includes all the dry wall screws, glue that you also need.
First box I ever put together on my own and took me about 20 hours of labor time as the hardest part was making the sub holes.
Now I don't have any power tools so had to have a shop make me a box, that was $400 but it was made in a day to my exact demensions and sounds amazing, well worth the money for how it performs over a generic box off the shelf in a store.

Any shop is going to charge you at least $150 for an enclosure. It's not worth the time otherwise. I'd charge $200 carpeted for a vented box for a single 12.

Go see Kyle Jessup at Future Shop in Peterborough he has many years of stereo competition behind him and he is a high school chum of mine.

as for the price it depends on what you want ported are more then sealed SPL boxes cost even more due to the design time involved Fiberglass is going to cost even more but he will go over all that with you just tell him Fred from the Belleville store sent you.

or caom see me in Belleville you can PM me the specs for the box and I will make it and you can come pick it up when its done.

do you know how long it takes to build a box and how much materials are? it takes atleast 3hrs from the first cut to finished product for a single 12'' enlosure and thats if its a simple enclosure that you already have the demenisions for. It will take even longer if you want the box tuned to a specific FQ, dual subs...ect..

so lets break it down

single 12'' spec ported or sealed

3hrs to build $50/hr= $150
3/4'' MDF= $20
carpet $5/ft= $25
carpet glue/wood glue/brad nails =$5
terminal cup=$5

for a total of $205 this is the minimum I would charge for this box

if you want the box tuned to a specific FQ I charge another $50 in design time and more in materials cause the boxes tend to be larger and use more wood, glue, carpet.

Also why would you think we would be cheaper? We are just as qualified if not more then most mom and pop shops and we offer life time warrenty on our labor so if that box every splits or leaks we will fix it for free even if it means building a new one and this coverage is nation wide so if you move all you do is head over to your new local FS with you reciept and they will take care of you no mom and pop shop can offer that service. No shop will build a box custom box for the same price as a prefab its just not possable if thats what your getting at.
