Recently changed my sub from a 0.75cu.ft sealed cube enclosure to a MDF(top sides and Fiberglass bottom enclosure.

I used rocker guard spray to help with inside the enclosure and now I'm finding the bass to be muddy.

The sub is a JL 10w1 and the enclosure is sealed.

What can I do to help deaden the box besides rocker guard spray.

I have access to dynamat extreme or regular dynamat.

Anyone have any other ideas!

Installers will be able to tell you more specifics, but a couple things:

- How thick is your glass bottom?
- Did you put corner braces and bracing in where you could to keep resonances down
- Have you checked to make sure there are no leaks anywhere
- It's sealed - have you stuffed the enclosure with some Dacron?
- Try something to absorb the reflected sound better - especially off the glass Black Hole #5 (see a Focal, Steg or Audiocontrol dealer - they can get it
- Dynamat has that new DynaXorb stuff, have not looked at it too much yet and what Frequencies it works well at - so check into that with your dealer or rep
- How much airspace is your new enclosure?? Too Big, Too small?

have you measured your airspace in the new box?
is it more or less airspace than the old?
I also find putting a brace from the center of the tub up to the baffle I use 1-2" thick wood doweling for this.
But I gotta ask if you were happy with it before why did ya change it? With all the new subs requiring very small airspace I very seldom need to use fiberglass for a false floor install nowadays I can generaly get all the airspace needed using all wood with just a lot of intricate cuts sometimes

Dacron is the pillow stuff stuff, so no worries there..

It sounds like it's a well built box - congrats on that.. Do you have some pics? Are there any really small cavities or narrow sections to the box?

Did you check phase on the sub? IE is it Pos to Pos and Neg to Neg?

Did you do any other changes when you built the box - change direction the sub is firing, is it facing into a wall or the floor and distance has changed etc?

I for about 4 months I had the sub facing back then when the idea to put it in the spare tire well. I left the sub facing up in the cube box and the sound was more direct and focus vs. rear firing.

The box may be too big I'll find out this week when we measure it.

Dynamat extreme is not the product for this application. As pointed out earlier, Black Hole 5 is the stuff to go with. Before trying it though, take some styrofoam blocks and duct tape it to seal it. Put them inside the box to take up space (thus the seal it properly to lower the internal air volume) and see what happens to the sound. You can use bricks, chunks of mdf etc. but styrofoam is way lighter in the long run.
