well I just finished making my box and I realized that I cut my hole too big. Now when I place the sub down air is escaping throught the sub mounting holes. How can I make the hole smaller and seal the sub in? I was thinking maybe have some weather stripping and wrapping it around the hole so it would close it up some?

You could make another baffle with the right-sized hole and put it over top

And having the extra reinforcement never hurt anything either!

update!

forgot to put in my op that time is of the essence, i'm leavin for a tournament tomorrow so it has to be quick. I bought some 1/2" foam weather stripping and it seems to be sealing.

2nd question, I put some silicone sealent to seal around where my wries go through the box today, how long should I wait before mounting the sub? do you think 8 hours will be enough? will the gases eat my rubber surround?

Most take 24 hours or so to fully cure, don't they? I'd say 8 hours will be ample though, I was scared of the same thing but threw mine in about 3 hours later and they look fine.

To seal up around the sub quickly use duct tape. Looks cheap and works great. Everything you want out of a spl box. If it still leaks just add more layers.

For the wires I used 5 minute epoxy. Last time I tried silicone I couldn't get a good seal around the wires.
