so i have a small reg cab truck and was plannin on replacing the center console with a custom made fiberglass one with a 10" woofer built in facing the back of the cab... so like the front of the sub will be inches away from the back of the cab and it will be firing into the center console that will be a sub box/amp rack/ cup holder.

first does this sound like a good idea? amp might not be built with it though this is all in my head right now.

second i want a 10" cuz i listen to mostly rock. then i was looking for subs and thought hey i wonder what a KICKER S10L7 D4 would sound like. Do they have tight bass good for fast paced music? how is SQ with them? Do they still hit hard with rap/hip-hop music? i listen to almost anything but its mostly rock.

advantage/disadvantage of the square subs please, ive never heard one.....

Your console idea should work out fine - it's been done many times before.

The L7 is a good woofer as well

It's a great woofer for sure hadles alot a power and has great out put.

Now on that note I would not call it a SQ sub whatsoever if you for SQ over SPL I'd go with something differnt more along the lines of focal subs.

Now if i'm not mitaken L7s are ment for ported enclosuers, just wondering witch way your going as most people that want SQ go with a sealed box.

thats what i meant the SQ thing about... ive never heard the square subs before and i know they are supposed to hit real good but ive never heard anything about if they sound like right shit to or not...

Yes i will be going sealed. Easier and doesn't require as much space.

I thought the square would be awesome for me because there is more surface area to the woofer and i dont have alot of room to deal with

on that note... i took a look and i dont think i will even be able to fit a 10" in between the seats... mayyyyyybe a 8".... i will have to measure and think some more.

The space between your seats will be pretty narrow - you will likely have to consider a console that flares out behind the seat so there is enough area to mount a 10.

As for the SQ of an L7 - don't worry about it. It's perfectly fine. The actual contribution a subwoofer makes to the overall 'sound quality' of a system is pretty small. The box you make and it's tuning will affect SQ more than your choice of driver.

yes i was thinking about having it behind the seats and flaring it into the console....but would that not sound like crap and really restrict air flow and bass?

hmm...ive never heard a good 8 inch woofer. What sort of quality's do people associate with 8" woofers. For example i find 10" good for fast paced music, rock and stuff. 12" and up i find better for rap and slower music.

i do listen to a lot of rock, but i also listen to a fair amount of rap, hip-hop, country. I would like to get a woofer that can keep up and hit good with all music.

Like Dukk said, the enclosure will make more of a difference than the actual driver.
Properly powered, the JL 8W7 will be more than adequate for whatever music you listen to....
