hi all, i am trying different calculators on this and whatnot but math isnt my thing i can't figure it out. here's what i have...

(2) Kaption COMP-108's (8ohm) 10" subs wired to 4ohm load. these subs are old but i like these
(1) Kaption enclosure - 2.072 ft^3 interior vol
(2) port tubes - 3" x 12" long each (sooo that's like... 72 sq inches of port isn't it) ??i have no idea??

anyone have an idea what the tuning freq of this enclosure would be? whatever it's tuned to, it sounds good. i am just curious for setting my filters, etc... any help is greatly appreciated!!!!! thanks in advance, hope i put this in the right section

hope you all have a great holiday!

if your ports arent flared the box is tuned to 36hz exactly

cool.

the 2 visible ends are flared (the rounded edged plastic rings they put on the end of the cardboard ports) but the ends of the tubes inside the box are not flared, just cut off flush.

thanks for the replies!

on a related topic...

if the box is tuned to 35Hz, would it be best to block frequencies below say exactly 35Hz or would it be okay to cut off around 30Hz? doing research on here i am reading that notes below the tuning frequency can cause the cones to lose control and over extend, etc.. but i dont really see anything that says how much below the tuning freq we are talking.... or does it mean that i have to cut it off at exactly the tuning freq? 30Hz would be nice if it wouldnt destroy my woofers.. but if i have to cut off at 35Hz i'll have to live with it!

in this situation we're talking 300w RMS to 2 10" subs rated for 175RMS each/

sorry for the questions, i am just getting back into car audio and i'm putting together a bit of a budget system over the next little while i'm just trying to plan things out before i go install all of it.

thanks so much for any replies!

i keep mine at 25hz even though i am tuned similar to you.
there isnt really a whole lot of music out there that you will listen to on a daily basis thats going to play that low anyway.

cool! my Pioneer GM-H200 (early 90's amp) does not have onboard HP/LP filters or a subsonic filter whatsoever.... so i was thinking i could cross my sub over at 80Hz or below with my deck (will figure it out when i get it all in and see where the cutoff sounds better) and install a couple of the "FMOD" crossovers from Harrison Labs (inline with the RCA's) to keep the sub from going below 25, 30, 35Hz whichever i should cut it off at.

thanks for the reply
