Any tips on mixing fleece and fiberglass.

The application is going to be (see photos)

Any suggestion on the size of pieces needed to be cut??

got to wal mart and get the green floral foam in the crafts section lol and intergrate your mounting ring onto it ... use foil or siran wrap onto the ball of foam then put on the fleece ... put the ring on top of the fleece back into the original spot where the ring what placed ( molded allready) the take the excess fleece and overlap the ring to give strength resin and i guess put a secon layer of figerglass .... when all dry open the top and scrape off the foam and spray in sound deadner of whatever you can get your hands on never did it but sounds like an idea to me hope it helps show pics as you go would like to see how is goes for ya

you can also intergrate mounting brakets on the sides pretty much anywhere you want and you can cut the sides to fit it

i maybe wrote to much lmao not sure how big of enclosure you will need but im sure an 8" ball for the mid and a 3" ball would sound right

Are you making pods? Are the clear pods plastic? I have made several "round" pods for my car already. You may want to take an alternative route to the construction.

The balls I purchased at Michael's. I'm going to use fleece to start the inside of the ball and use fiberglass to give it strength.

Fozzz - what other alternatives do I have? I'd like for them to be light and I'm getting alu rings done to hold the speakers in place!

You're glassing on the inside of the balls?

I would start with adding chopped fibre to resin until you get a fairly thick flowable liquid, add hardener, and then pour it into the ball and swirl the ball around as the mixture cures. I do this to the inside of kickpanels where I can't get mat into and it works like a hot damn

Doing this a few times until you are like 1/8" thick will be plenty strong. After the first layer I like to add pieces of mat that I have cut into ~1/4"x1" strips to the resin. The longer fibres help in the strength but they are still short enough that you avoid the wolfman look

Thanks dukk - I was told that using fleece will help to pull the plastic off the mold!

If you use fleece, it well absorb the resin and become the structure of the part. While it may be strong enough, it would still not be "dead" enough for a loudspeaker cabinet.

I usually start with either and inflatable ball or a sponge ball. Put your ring on and then pull your fleece over the ball. Put on a light coat of resin and then let it dry. Pull out the ball and then put a liberal amount of resin into the ball. I will usually then add stranded fiberglass to the inside of the ball for strength. To make the outside of the ball perfectly smooth make a template that is the same diameter as the speaker and put it in your aluminum ring. Attach that to a lathe or even a drill and turn it like you would a wooden bowel. You can add bondo or the like depending on what your desired finish needs to be. This works pretty well for me.

I'm not that far away if you need them made. I can make your aluminum rings as well if need be. I can also post pics of this process if you like. My midrange use spheres in my current system.
