| Good day all,
first of all, I'm new on this forum. So hello All!!!
second;
Last week I bought myself another sub, it's a Rockford Fosgate 1412 an oldskool sub wich you will be remeber.
Now I've simulated an enclosure in WinISd, and came to a box design of 2.119 ft-m3 and a port of 3.94 inch and a length of 13.78 inch...
The only problem is, that I'm going over the cone excursion of this sub.
If had simulated the box design RF preffers, and still the subs go's out of the excursion.
Have you guys here any ideas, or do you use/have used this sub? What where the box designs?
The Sub is going to play to an Lanzar OptiDrive 2500 ( a little 1000wrms @ 4ohm, 12V)
I hope my story makes sense, I'm not used to write in Englisch, if there are any doubs, please say so,
Jaap |

| Well, if it was me I would tune more like 35hz (you're tuned about 30 right now) and keep that amp under control - 1000w is a little much for that woofer.
You could make the box smaller too, like 1.5cuft, to help keep it under control.
Oh and before someone chimes in with "just seal it"... a 1.2cuft box has about the same or more excursion down to ~28hz, a higher f3 point, and less output...

That's true, a closed box isn't any better, and the excursion is also bad...
I know that the sub is overpowerd with this amp. My other amp, witch is still in the car is about 300W RMS. Even with this little power, the sub is still even over the max...
I have simulated a smaller box, but when I see it right it will be muh worse... I will loose under the 50hz voor about 8 till 9 db...
The box design is not voor SPL but for pure SQ(L).
Have you had the sub yourself, of have you simulated the woofer? |

| I sold, installed, and was a hardcore RF guy back when that woofer was new. I designed many boxes for that woofer back in the day.
In fact, my younger brother had an RFR-1412 for a few years in his Mustang and then his Avenger. It is still his favourite sub of all time. http://http://www.cardomain.com/ride/307882

This is what I ment: the blue line was what I preffered, but is tricky by is Xmax, The green line will do I think. But I think the bass of this enclosure wil not as deep as with the blue enclosure...
Please correct me if I'm saying thing not right!!! |

| For sure the blue line will have more real bottom end but the green line will 'sound' louder as your ears really suck at hearing stuff under 50hz, and there's not all that much content down there anyway (without playing specialty music).
Unfortunately, this woofer is forcing you to make a compromise: deep extension in trade for more useable output and better power handling

| I'm willing to build the blue one, only if it's only for testing...
What would you do with this woofer, tune down to a 30, and forget SPL, or go some where in the middle because when actually driver these tones are very hard to hear?
What kind of enclosure does your brother have? Do you recommend it? |

| The Mustang was closer to 2.5cuft and the Avenger was closer to 3cuft. Both times tuned to 35hz. Both times he only had 400watts on tap though so the woofer was able to stay in control.
Like I say - it's a nice woofer but you really do have too much power for it. Exercise control over the bass level and you should enjoy it.

| Yep, awesome sub you got there. I loved it in both systems that were pictured above. And the enclosure that gave me the deepest, loudest bass I've ever had in a car yet was when we put that sub in a 3 cu. ft. ABC box for the Avenger and put it on a Punch 200 DSM. I can still feel what Dynamix II's Bass Generator felt like. Ruuuuuummmmmmmmmbbbbblllllllllleeeeeeeeeeeeee
