| I just purchased a brand new Alpine PXA-H700 processor and am trying to decide on an Alpine head unit. I am trying to build a great sounding system that is also loud (I will NOT be competing). For my head unit, I am trying to get the most sound quality I can for the best value. I am considering the DVA-7996 (with digital output) but do not like the idea of having to use the volume control of the processor as the main system volume control. So my question is, do you think I will notice a significant difference between using the digital out on the 7996 and the AI-Net output on the 7996?
Thanks to all.
Lawrence.

| use any deck with a toslink fibre optic output and use the d/a converter in the pxa, i know that then you would have to use the pxa volume but would get the advantage of the d/a converter in the pxa, the only deck available right now as far as i know that speaks that same language so that you wouldnt have to use that pxa volume is the ivad900-901, i use the ivad900 with pxah700 and its absolutely awsome, the pxa imo is the best processor out there for the money |

| If you're not competing, I just wonder why you chose such an expensive high end DSP in the first place. Just curious, that's all.
Can I have your job? |

| Chadxton...I chose the 700 because I wanted ultimte flexibility...ya, probably overkill, but it will be fun...
...BTW, you don't want to work my hours or deal with my clients...
Defro...thanks very much...but I'm not sure you answered my question, which is, will I notice the difference using the fibre optic output vs. the AiNet output?
Thanks again.

| You CD source will not be transmitted through AINET. It will only be sent through either RCA or TOSLINK. AINET is only used for volume & headunit controls as well as for AM/FM radio.
Use the TOSLINK.

| sorry, i thought i did answer it, you will definitely notice a diifference between toslink and rca preouts, the toslink is far better as you will ne using the d/a converter in the pxa, and as killer grand stated the ai net will be used for volume etc |

| Thanks guys...I thought the AiNet cable carried the audio signal. I did not realize that it was either TOSLINK or RCA.
Now you've got me thinking...if I am going to use the digital out on the 7996, then why not just get the S624 changer with the digital out...much less expensive than the 7996...any further thoughts?

| I am almost certain that you must use an alpine H/U to get the processor to work....

| Pretty sure the PXAH700 will work with any headunit, but it won't be used to it's full potential. Also heard of noise issues when using the RCA inputs. |

| you can use any headunit with rca preouts, you can use the cd changer if you wish as well, if you choose to use any cd player you will get full use of the pxa with the exception of the d/a converter in the precessor, the dva7996 is a great headunit you will not be dissatisfied |
