I have a friend who wants to totally revamp her audio system in her car. She asked me for some help, but unfortunately all the equipment I buy is normally off the net. She would like to go to a store and actually listen and see which types of speakers/subs fit her tastes.

Does anyone know of any good audio shops in the GTA?? I know of a few, but would like to hear from you all to see if there are any good reputable ones..

Understand first that it won't really matter how the speakers sound on a shop wall (except maybe for gross tonal qualities). The art of building a music system in the car involves putting raw drivers into self-built enclosures and tuning from there, given the sonic characteristics of the car itself. Something that most of us would never imagine doing for a home system.

And wherever she goes, have her INSIST on hearing systems (in at least a couple of vehicles) which the shop built. And get a few references. From people who actually spent significant money in the shop.

Learn from my (and others) mistakes -- which in my case cost thousands. The industry is full of these sob stories. But nobody else needs to become a statistic! [img]smile.gif[/img]

If the shop can't or won't do this, caveat emptor. No self-respecting shop (even in this business which is filled with ignorant customers, snake-oil and incompetence) should refuse to do this.

thanks for the advice sac...I agree speakers in the showrooms sometimes do not sound as they would in vehicles, but it's better than not hearing them at all..

Funny, you guys named all the shops I was going to recommend - Concepts on Wheels, Audio to Go, Number 1 and Chase.

i have had extremely bad experiences with audio to go. and they were install related

Listening is always key. But best way to do that is to hit an IASCA show or USAC. Then you get to listen, if you're lucky, to real systems in real cars.

As far as places to listen, Concepts has a nice showroom and demo board, Canadian Show car (Keele and 401 area), Kromer downtown has boards, etc, etc.
