| With a dual 4 ohm sub, is it ok to run each channel of a amp per coil. The amp I have does 150x2 at 4 ohms, 500x1 at 4ohm and is not 2 ohm stable. The sub I am considering is 300rms(JL Audio 12W3v2 dual 4 ohm). So I want to connect each of the amp to a voice coil. Will this harm the sub?
I am uneasy about getting a version that can run at 4 ohms because it will be overpowered a lot. The amp is a usa-150x |

| If the amps are not tuned exactly the same, then yes it will cause damage.

| Nothing's wrong with overpowering your sub.
Now I got this information from a pro, and I'm sticking to it because there's been mixed opinions on this...basically a DVC sub isn't going to get hurt from it being fed stereo. The only way it could get damaged is if one channel is inverted in phase, causing little or no cone movement, and generating a lot of heat. | |

| It's only 1 amp. i'm talking about usig each channel on a 2 channel amp, instead of bridging it. But i'm guessing it will be ok. | |

| Thanx for the help. The main reason for this is that the amp I have does 500x1 at 4 ohms. At the moment I have a pair of 4 Ohm DVC subs which work out fine, but i'm considering only using one. This creates the problem for using the amp bridged because it's not 2ohm stable and was concerned that hooking 1 channe per voice will damage the sub. The second option is to sell both subs and buy a JLW3 but I was concerned that 500rms will be too much for the sub. | |

| If you're dary, you may be able to get away with 2 ohm mono if you put some good cooling fans to it and keep the gains down. But the "X" type amps already get warm enough on their own. Gilligan's Hitch! Where are you when we need a second opinion?! [img]tongue.gif[/img] | |

| 1 vc per channel will be fine AS LONG AS teh input to that amp is mono. if you have wired into a pre out that is stereo look out! both signals need to be the same other wise your gonna damage your sub.

| Wire the sub in series. Bridge the amp. Power will be the same or close whether it is 8ohm mono or 4ohm stereo. | |

| your easiest bet would be to wire the sub to an 8 ohm load and run the amp mono.. i think you will get the most power out of it this way.. (unless you ran it at 2 ohm, which your saying your amp cant handle)..
but it also would be ok to run 1 voicecoil per channel as long as the outputs are matched.. | |
