Anyone know what Eclipse is up to? Last year they go into A&B Sound & then a year later they're going into Future Shop! [img]graemlins/jawdrop.gif[/img]

Are they pulling out of A&B Sound because of A&B's uncertain future in mobile electronics?

For those of you that are Eclipse retailers, what has Eclipse told you about the Future Shop deal?

If anyone is from A&B Sound, what is their future in mobile electronics?

When I was in retail, I sold Eclipse for over eight years. I loved the brand & owned a 5303R AM/FM CD, a 5061A CD changer & a set of 8961 speakers. Back in the late '90s, Ray Windsor (then Eclipse's marketing manager) told us that they would NEVER deal with national accounts & wholly support the independent retailer. Since he's moved on I guess that philosophy went out the window.

Anyone have any comments?

Eclipse seems to be going in the other direction. JMO

why do people think FS whores ****. I dont see any deals there. Its all full retail and they dont haggle at all.

hardly anybody sells for mslp

i give away a pair of pioneer speakers with a deck and still make money

In regards to a brand having the 'no box store' position.....

I think for small companies it is an honorable position to take...their dealers appreciate it.

When a company reaches a certain size and certain market penetration rates there is only one more place to go.....the box store.

Never say never for any brand staying out of box stores.......all it takes is for an ownership change and anything is possible.

Actually it would be great it FS carried Eclipse.
I've always wanted to try them but not too many retailers around.
Atleast with FS I could try it out, and if I didn't like it, then return it.

First things first I think Eclipse needed to do something like this. If you remember a few years ago Fujitsu Ten the parent company of Eclipse filed for chapter 11 (bankruptcy protection from their creditors) and this was probably a last resort to save the company. That is just my opinion.
The reason that most people say that "Big box" stores like Future shop, Best buy and so on are "whores" is because they are able to buy HUGE volumes from manufacturers so they get better pricing first off. They also rely on sheer volume in alot of cases, buy a deck for $100 and sell it for $109. Most independants like myself can't even buy that same deck for the price that they are retailing it for. This type of strategy works when you sell volume like they do.
I guess there are a few reasons people get upset over this kind of thing, like shops that are Eclipse dealers currently and had to do fairly substantle buy ins to open an account and now FS because of the buying power it has, can undercut any price that dealer has. Also for some city independant stores who rely heavily on walk in customers for their business, may see a decrease in traffic. I myself am kind of sad to see it because Eclipse was always one of the more niche lines in the industry.

I guess those are some reasons that people say that FS is a "whore". Myself, I could really care less what FS does cause the lines I carry are not big enough to go into FS, and the stores around me do not have install bays, so bring on the deck installs!!!! [img]graemlins/beer.gif[/img]
