Hello all,

This is my first post here and I have been out of the game for awhile so be nice.

I need to know what people are using nowadays for a 1 ohm stable 1kw+ class d mono amp on the cheapish side. I think my jbl bp1200.1 has finally died. I still get a green light when it turns on but no sound. I suppose it could be my deck sub pre-outs but i would like to check out my options for amps as well.

So what are my options?

thanks in advance.

Why don't you try and get it repaired? Just a thought. Also, I am currently using a Rockford P1000.1BD, and that does 1000W @ 1 ohm, but my birthsheet says 1350ish so

I think just about any 1Kw amp will turn into a space heater then a big paper weight at a 1 ohm load for daily driving. This is likely what eventually killed your JBL. HEAT. Do you have any other VC config options? I'd maybe look into an amp that makes the power your looking for into 4 ohms (if it can be wired) instead....

Planet Audio has several class D, 1 ohm stable amps in the kilowatt range. I use one and I love it. You can find really good prices and reviews on the internet. Definately worth a look.

If I remember correctly, the BP1200.1 was only rated for 2 ohms... that might have eventually killed it. but I'd go for another JBL amp, or just about any middle of the road 1kw amp that's rated to play down to 1 ohm.

BP1200.1 was good for a bit over 1200w at at both 1 and 2 ohms

a sweet amp indeed...

If the amp is a decent brand and rated for 1ohm operation, it'll work properly. I've found that most amps that fail prematurely are due to poor installation...ie. poor ventilation, and not bolted to a secure surface. I've run a number of amps over the last 2-3 decades at 1ohm..or less in some cases..with no problems at all, and many have been daily drivers in my long haul rig...so we're talking 10+ hours of continuous use daily for years and years. Personally OP I'd try to get that JBL repaired, they're good amps.

I actually need a 1.5 ohm config but i figured if it is good to 1ohm then i have some wiggle room. I have 2 12s with 6ohm DVC. Im pretty sure i want to run them in parallel thereby creating a 1.5 ohm load.

I will look into getting the amp repaired. Where do i even begin looking.
