My bro just bought a 1999 chevy s10. It has some american eagle rims and a custom paint job along with an aftermarket cd player that is very nice. HA! Just kidding about the last part. The dude that installed the system in the truck had to be a doosch! Seriosly, i was like exploding at all the problems in the truck. He kept his amp and subs but left all the wiring as is. He used 8 gauge wire which is perfect for the 300w amp that I am lending my brother till he saves up money for his own system. Here is my story:

The first issue that came up was when I moved the seat forward to see how much space I had to deal with. I noticed a wire connected to the wall and it happened to be the ground. It was screwed into a piece of thin sheet metal (the sheet metal held to the frame with 3 rivets) and the surface still had full paint on it. Next issue arose when I questioned the wire that was running with the power/remote wire. This mysterious wire turned out to be the rca's. Next I decided to check out the head unit. After a fight to get it out I was surprised with a BIG MESS. It was unbelievable, I didn’t know which wire was which. I love having clean harnesses but this dude had over 4 wire crimpers/connectors (wut ever they are called, THE LITTLE RED THINGS THAT HOLD THE WIRES TOGETHER!) on one wire and many other messy problems. And electrical tape everywhere!

Well I got it all cleaned up (at least I thought I did) and I gave my bro my old head unit and one of my amps that I had layin around in my room and he mooched a 10” kicker cvr from one of my friends. I got it all hooked up (I thought it would be a simple install with only one sub and amp) and turned the truck on and nothing. No power on my amp. I hooked up the amp in my truck to see if it still works, and it does. I believe that I did everything right so now I am going to have to restart totally so that his mistakes don’t screw me up.

what was thw wire in the wall grounding?how could you question what rca's look like? were they low level inputs or something?did the truck come with a deck?

oops, my bad, srry if i didn't make it clear enough. He had an amp connected and when he took it out he left the ground where it was and the connection he made to the body was hard to look at.

I didn't see the tips of the rca's. The cable was black and I am used to seeing clear blue or red. I knew it was the rca's when I found the tip. But that is besides the point. Even before I knew how to instal my head unit I knew that rca's don't run with power wires.

Maby i overreacted, hahaha. Nothing was working and he has like 40 feet of everywire so it is all jumbled up into a ball behind the seat and I had to clean that crud up. But it was good experiance i think. I told my brother to take out everywire and he should be finished soon so I can get started on putting in the new stuff.
