Well today I finally cared enough to see wtf is going on and why I have such a lack of midbass, as I ripped the door panels off I notice HUGE openings in the door (I guess you'd call it the metal inner doorskin?) anyways could this be what is causing my severe lack of midbass? The only thing that is attempting to seal those large openings is moisture(vapour whatever) barrier and strip caulk, other then this I have no other clue as to what my prob would be, but does this seem like it could be my biggest prob? I have enough power and whatnot, just midbass is severely lacking.

The huge holes sure don't help. Seal them up.

What speakers? Your sig either needs updating or you are living a fantasy expecting anything approaching midbass from the stock (or any) 4x6s... [img]graemlins/dunno.gif[/img]

Most midrange/midbass drivers will not have any problems playing in freeair setups (like in that of doors). Just make sure that any rear fired sound waves from the drivers do not contact the frontal waves, or else you will loose a ton of midbass and even lower midrange frequencies. Most cars have pretty good door pannels that seal the front of the speaker to the rear. Its rare to find a door that will act as a sealed enclosure. Even if it was totally sealed off, the air volume would be far too large for a 5.25 or 6.5 inch speaker. You could try to make some small sealed enclosures for them with fibreglass or something, but would be very difficult to make in that area of the car, plus difficult to tune properly.

If they're the same ones, he has a set of planet audio kevlar 6 1/2's for midbass and 4 and tweet for the kicks.
Go get a dynamat door kit or equivalent and seal up that door. Also make 1/2" mdf baffle for the speakers.

How does the baffle improve midbass?

I just sealed up the inner skin on my doors a couple of weeks ago to help my midbass. I have a marked improvement in the sound [img]graemlins/thumb.gif[/img] It's true though, there is a lot of air space in a door. Mine have at least 2 cubic feet each

well, thats easy, what is going to resist movement less, 22awg steel or 1/2" MDF?

The more rigid the baffle the less energy is used trying to move the baffle and more used to create sound.

Once I get my next vehicle I'm gonna put sound deadening on the outer door skin and then put a couple layers of fiberglass on the inter door skin to seal off the door. I'm thinking the only place sound will be able to escape is at the bottom of the doors where their are the holes for water to drain and at the top where the window comes in.

Thanks found out one big problem was the crossover on my amp, once I switched it to bypass that helped tons, still not near where I'd like it to be but does sound better, and I think I'll defenitely be putting something on those skins. Thanks guys.
