I am currently deciding on which new woofer to purchase. Based on feedback from the smart CCA board members over the last 2 years I understand RE to be the best of the best. (No questions asked!).

I understand they are exclusive but since they are the best I figured lots of stores would sell them.. (AH Nope) The common answer I get is WHO?

Now when I visit boards, RE all of a sudden has lost the luster and apparantly is no good anymore.

I want to make sure I am buying the cool stuff so people will be impressed and I will have more cred.

So, I need your guys help again. I dont want to buy every day shitty stuff and I dont want anyone to laugh at me for buying RF or Alpine. So my question is.........

What is the new flavour of the month......? and how come RE isnt any good?

There is no "best".
It all depends what you are looking for and how much you want to spend.

Exactly how do you intend to impress them?

If it does what you want it to do, then does it really matter if they laugh?

I don't know very many people that would laugh at you for buying RF or Alpine.
Both of them make quality products.

Don't be fooled.. RE is still VERY good stuff.

The rumours floating aroudn the Internet say that their prices have gone up significantly, and that's why people don't like them any more.

It would probably still be worth your while to see if you can get your hands on some though.

If you're still turned off by RE... take a look at the DD stuff I have being cleared out. It's also very good.

BUT... before anyone can really answer the questions for you about what you should get, we need more info. What sort of power are you going to be using? What size and quantity do you want? (1 x 12" ... 2 x 10"??) ...

once we know that we can start to give you some idea's

maybe you should be more concerned about how its going to sound an how well its going to hold up more so than how impressed people will be by it. you could have the crappiest stuff in the world an it'll be all shiny an impressive but its still crap. install is pretty important aswell tho, you could have the best gear in the world. improperly installed its going to sound like ass and wont impress anyone, an no one likes to open a trunk an see a rats nest or an amp just tossed in.

as for decent gear, i've heard good things about re, dd audio, dls an morel. it all depends what your final goal really is. an whats wrong with rf an apline? there are many cars out there with impressive systems sporting gear from those companies an many other mainstream ones

What I find kind of amusing is this, you have spent 2 years researching something when you could have spent 2 years listening to it. Now that the tide has turned, you want to turn with it and find the new flavour of the month. Why have the flavour of the month when there may be something far superior for your particular application?

if you are looking for daily driver to listen to banging all day long...there are many brands that will suit you....
if you are looking for balls out extreme spl subs for competing..well sure re will suit your needs.

if you are looking for finese and listening to band music and jazz and all that wel there are subs for that....

i think your best thing would be to state what you want this sub for so guys can give ideas to you..

my only question is....who are these people that you are trying to impress..and are they paying for your system for you....casue i would listen to your ears and not others opinions unless you completely are clueless.

just in case you wanted to know...here are my chioces for

SPL: DD
SQ: Focal
Daily Listening at low volumes:Focal
daily listening at high volumes: Many Focal
for throwing into a car that is crappy: Phoenix Gold
for throwing in a woofer toss: any thing from xs cargo..
