I just finally got the stereo together a pair of 12" type r's in a box made for them and everything...and it's pretty killer. But there's still times where i'm use to it and i want it louder. (i'm not sure how often ill get use to something and always want it louder but...) I'm kinda debating an Elemental Designs E12A or E15A. I just don't know a lot about them and never heard/seen one but been told htey're good.

I want at least the same amount of SQ outta this sub as the type r's, and am wanting more SPL. Whatever i choose, if i do, will run off the same amp i'm running now, a concept cc-d800a (800x1@1ohm). If i remember correctly the e12a is 900rms but have heard they can take a lil more than rated....or did fine on 1100w.

Anywho...anyone got any opinions or suggestions about this all???

if it matters, the rest of hte stereo consists of:
HU - Alpine 7894
Concept CC-504 running:
5x7's all the way around, eclipse and memphis, errr alpine n memphis i mean, the eclipse speakers passed away.

Lot's of great reviews on the e12a but I wouldn't trade the two 12" type R's for one of them. If you're using the same power you will lose spl over what you have now.
As far as I know, no one has recieved their e15a yet but from the specs and the reviews on the e12a I would take one e15a over the R's with one exception. Give it more power. 1100-1200rms to a single e15a in a ported box should satisfy. Or put that power or more into another 15 like a HC, XXX, Inhuman, CMPx2, in a ported setup and you would be happy also.
I was going to get the e15a but didn't like the idea of not hearing it before I bought and the fact that I would still be waiting for it.
I went from a pair of Boston Acoustics Pro 12's to the HC15 and more juice and I'm happier with the new setup so I guess I can relate to how you feel.

I wouldn't expect it to be louder .........type R's are pretty good subs

but I would think 1 15A would be just as loud and take less space .........wich is always nice

if you're looking for something different than what you have go for it........but don't expect miracles or you may be disapointed

BTW look into a 1200-1500 watt amp .....even if you keep your type R's

Reviews on the 15A should start popping up on the net over the weekend. People started to receive them a couple days ago.
www.soundillusions.net is where you will most likely first see to reviews.

hmmmmmm what to do. the e12a definitely leaves room for upgrade where as there's not much else to do with the type r's, at the same time, it'll cost me another $100 to grab an e12a. and a 15 well just add another $50 lol. hmmmm tough call.

there's definitely no room to upgrade amps at the moment. Hmm maybe i should stick with these type-r's for a while.

Just reviewed a Type-R... finally. I really like that woofer. Was tight, went low, sounded very good. Nice to see...

Would I trade a pair of great sounding woofers for something else to gain some output. Consider this.

More often than not, woofers capable of handling more power are less efficient, that is to say, for a woofer rated aroun 500 Watts to hit 130 dB, you'll need, say, 400 Watts. For a woofer rated to handle 2000 Watts to hit the same SPL, you will likely need 600-800 Watts. This is a generalization, but it likely the case.

Larger woofers (in terms of power handling) will only be usefull if you feed them more power.

I would, but I'd always pick 1 super-sub over 2 average subs.

Oh, and I'd get a bigger amp like Dave says.
