i am looking for suggestions on the system (i plan on spending about 2000-2500 intsalled..is that a sufficeint budget??)..i primarily listen to metal...all types from metal with keyboards to just metalcore...with some rock...anyways a lot of double bass kicking...as per this article http://www.canadiancaraudio.com/online/general-discussion/1962-quest-metal-friendly-sub.html?highlight=heavy+metal
so anyways 2 12 inch subs not be able to keep up with the double kick?...suggestions for the system....?...is there any suggestions on how to hook my ipod up to my system (direct connection is better than fm transmitter correct??)....anyways all input is welcome..thanks

Direct connect is definitely a step up from FM. Lots of options to consider for a system. A pair of 12's are going to be bass overload in that car unless you throw an amp to the front and rear speakers as well. Your budget is fine provided that your taste in music lives inside of the budget. As in, don't expect to get Crown when you really drink Black Velvet (nasty cheap stuff). Does your budget include taxes?

a 12 will, might depending on brand, be able to hit those beats but 2 10's put out more then enough bass to fill that car with sound. for the ipod all i have is a stereo plug to phono plugs and that sounds decent enough, yes way better then fm tansmitter. not sure on how the direct link cord would sound.

you gotta take into account that with almost all GM vehicles over 2000 your gonna need a relocate kit for the head unit. so add about 150 bucks to deck install.

you dont really need 2 amps one larger amp will do fine
What I would suggest is bring a CD of your choice to a stereo shop in your town and get a listen to some different subs/amps, and see what you like for yourself
BTW I thnk $2000 is more than enough for a first system allthough ive never had anything installed in a shop.

What brands do the shops in your area cary
