Go for it. I use a few different amps for my high end. A Clarion APX 4 channel, bridged down to two, runs my rear door 6x9's. The amp is rated 50x4, or ~100x2, @ 4ohms. The 6x9's are Kenwood's highest powered ones, rated 300w, bigass magnet on the back, crosshatch pattern in the cone. This is my hottest running amp, one could almost fry eggs on it when I've been working the system hard. It's been going for 3 or 4 years now, with no complaints.
For my front door 6x9's (same type as the rear doors) I currently have a bigass 2 channel Alpine V12. I figure it does about 125x2 @ 4ohms. It's dialed down a bit even, to match the other amps. It doesn't get very warm at all, just along the one side where I assume the fets are.
And for my dash, I just installed some fresh speakers a week ago, as my 8 year old JBL's were done. A new set of (old stock) Orion Cobalt 5 1/4 biampable coaxials. Very nice. Popped 'em in and hooked 'em right up to my Rockford Fosgate Punch 55.2 amp. It does 27.5x2 @4ohms, but these new Orions are 3 ohms, so it's workin' a bit harder. It gets pretty toasty too, when I work the system hard.
For my next upgrade, I think a good set of Orion 6x9's or something like that for the front doors, move the Kenwoods to the back to double up on rear speakers (for opening the doors and blasting the beach, something I do often), Give the V12 both sets of rears @ 2 ohms (it'd do it, it's a trooper!), bring the Clarion forward to bi-amp the Orion dash speakers, and get a new amp for the front doors. Retire the Punch, or better yet, make it a centre channel amp.
Ya, it's a dog's breakfast. The point? It sounds wicked. 10/10 Usaci Imaging. 7/10 Usaci Width (dang, forgot to set the DTA to left, instead of centre). And fill it all up with my two Orion 1200d's driving my H2 12.2, and you got one helluva SQL ride!
