i agree, sales people make a big deal about an amp that can run at 1 ohm. their eyes light up and they get all excited when they mention its 1 ohm stable.
i think a lot of people make the mistake of not knowong about impendances at all, and just buy an amp that puts out say 1000 watts. they dont even know if their subs are wired to 1 ohm, or 2 ohms or whatever, then wonder why thier subs arent louder with the bigger amp.
if you dont know what im trying to say, heres what i mean
somebody has a dual 2ohm sub, wired to either 1 or 4 ohms, then they go buy a rockford fosgate amp that puts out its max power at 2 ohms. so the person would be running it at 4 ohms, and not be getting full power from their amp. i see a lot of people doing this around where i live.
