What sub would work best with the Lanzar MXA242 amp. I'm looking to run two 10" subs. I want that numbers to match up and I've seen some subs with the same numbers but DVC, and I have no idea how to wire that type of sub to an amp. I've tried reading about it but it confused the crap outta me. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.

DVC subs are used to present lower or higher impedance loads (ohms) to the amplifier. For this particular amplifier, it is not recommended to drop the impedance below 4 ohms per channel..So my recommendation is to use one SVC (4 ohm) sub or a (2 ohm) DVC in series per channel...Also, the specs on that main page are inflated. View the manual page to get more accurate specs...As for wiring sub series vs parallel. Below are basic diagrams that illustrate such..
parallel.bmp
series.bmp

In regards to calculating the resulting impedance;

For series; simply add the values of each coil (2) 4 ohm in series equals 8 ohms

For parallel, there's a bit more math involved so I hope I dont lose you...
Invert the values, add them, then revert...here's an example
(2) 4 ohm coils in parallel..
First invert and add the values (4 inverted is 1/4), 1/4 + 1/4 = 2/4 (reduced to 1/2). Then revert the 1/2 value, = 2 ohms

Hope this helps...

The math part looks confusing but I get it, it helps a bit.

I'm glad I'm only looking at getting that amp. I didn't relize how inflated the numbers were. Thanks for pointing that out.

Always buy a quality amp. A good amp will last a long long long time........That thing l ooks like it could fry and be unreliable.......Remember you get what you pay for.

Yo man before you just go BUY an AMP you need to know what your going to be using it for. You say you want 2 10's but what kinda 10s what kinda power ratings?

I would choose the subs you want first then go looking for an amplifier......ANd for subs i really do reccomend a monoblock. As most will agree on that here.

Also that sony amp could run some low entry level subs nicely.......its ok amp id say for somethign that can take 300WRMS @ 4 ohms so a single 12 that amp would be good with a 300WRMS power rating.....but thats just me.

In regards to lanzar amps, here are the lines from highest to lowest
1. OPTI/ OPTI HC
2. Heritage
3. Vibe
4. MXA
5. Viberant (these are the ones that are chrome with the blue light rod on the top). The model # state vibe but it's really the Viberant...

I would definately stay away from the MXA and Viberant lines. The Vibe line is relatively good. Heritage series is much better and the OPTI /OPTI HC is the best...I myself run heritage 5.25" components in the front and heritage 6x9 three ways in the rear. For my low end, I am running one OPTI1532D sub with the OPTI2000D class D mono block...

Well I already have a Sony 1252GTR and two 10" Sony subs, but I'm only running one right now. I plan on adding another GTR amp for the other sub, I just wanted a decent amp for a low price and have no idea where to start. I guess I went about building my system up a bit backwards.

If you already have the one sony amp and subs, it would be better if you maintain consistency with what you already have (meaning, buy the other sony amp instead of another brand)...By the way, that Sony amp looks relatively good and it think it should work well with your set-up...

Yeah I only brought it up cuz I was on eBay and saw the Lanzar amp for a decent price with "good numbers". Basically I got ahead of myself, thinking about upgradding the system I'm in the process of upgrading. A lot of it too is curiosity, I"m new to this and I want to learn as much as possibe, would like to do it for a living. Anyway thanks for the help guys, I think I'll stick with the system I've got for now.
