| I want to hook up another battery in my trunk for my amp(subs). It's 1000 rms and my light dim when I drive down the road so im trying to fix that problem. Right now I have a yellow optima under the hood with the stock sunfire alternator. Dont want to replace it untill its broken. 0/1 gage ground on the battery, 4 gage running from the alt. to the battery, and 0/1 gage to the amp w/ 1 farad cap. So my question is...
What size battery should I get. I can get a battery from my work(toyota) at cost. Or do I get another optima? Different between $70.00 or $200.00 |

| Mounting a battery upside down is not something I look for in a battery - LMAO, but thanks... Will it be a huge difference between the two batterys? |

| I would seriously consider upgrading your alternator. Adding another battery will only place a larger load on your alternator (it will just be one more thing your alternator has to charge once the bass drains it). This article does a pretty good job outlining electrical upgrades, check it out if you get some time!

| Get zero gauge from alternator + to battery +, make sure it is fused as well. No need to remove the stock wire, leave it there. Measure the resistance of the ground return next, my bet is that it is sky high. This as well manifests itself as the blinky blinky monster that you see every time the bass note hits.

Yes, sounds like you just need some more capacity.
Getting a normal lead acid battery from Toyota would be bad. Optima's have less internal resistance. Similar to subwoofers... Say you have a 4 ohm sub (lead battery) and a 1 ohm sub (Optima). Hook up the "normal" 4 ohm sub to your amp (alternator), and you get about 100 watts from your amp (or amps from your alternator). Hook up that 1 ohm sub and woahhhhh.... Now you get 300 watts from your amp!
They're kinda like that, but don't think of them like that. It's just one way of looking at it. Optimas have less internal resistance than normal batteries. It is true that if you take a stock car, upgrade all the "Big 3" cabling, and replace the stock batteries with Optimas, your 100 amp alternator will now do about 120, and more efficiently at that.
So, don't get a liquid battery, that would be like sticking in an 8 ohm sub to your 2 ohm setup... it'd work... but poorly. Yes, a rear Optima is definately your next move.
Lots of Optima advice on my "uber-post"... at http://www.allstart.net/batadv.htm

| Please do explain the "HACK" comment indepth to me please, I am having trouble understanding it.
No need to remove the old wire because it is the one with the fusable link on it that goes from the alternator to the starter and then to the battery. If you are upgrading the wire to zero guage from 4 guage to allow for more current from the alternator to the battery, another stock wire that is also carrying current is not going to hinder the process at all but compliment it.
So if you want to replace the stock wiring, sure go for it. You can, just remember to upgrade and fuse the wire going from the battery to the starter as well......
