Single DIN head unit (Budget $250)
4” dash speakers (Budget $80)
6.5” front door speakers (Budget $80)
6.5” rear door components with 1” tweeters (Budget $125)
Amp(s) (Budget $500)
Sub(s) with enclosure (Budget $500)

Currently I have sitting in my garage
a huge ported box for 2 12" subs
1" Cerwin Vega Dome tweeters
Kenwood 1 channel monoblock amp

As well currently in the car
Panasonic Ghost face H/U
SONY M3 old skool amp to push
15" MTX thunder 6000 sub with a shitty home-made vented enclosure
Cerwin vega 6.5" rear mids
Cheapo JVC 6.5" fronts
factory 4" dash
factory rear tweeters

I don't mind recycling some of the old stuff - but honestly, not content with the current set-up.

I love the rumble of SPL but realistically require the clean and crisp sound of SQ

I will soon be in the market for an audio overhaul and cannot decide which way to go - can’t decide if I want to go SPL or SQ.

Plans are to gut it and start over (with the exception of a Power Accoustik DVD player and Power Accoustik 5.6” TFT screen because of the semi-custom install that was done.)

Head Unit, amps, subs, and components are going to come out and passed on to the new generation of tuners.

Here’s the thing – I have a baby on the way (hence the reason for the video equipment) and I will have a limited budget – of approx $1500-$1700 before install.

What should I get that is in my price range?

Why would you want to go with SPL?

Generally spl means you are competing and will only play 1 note.

If you mean you can't decide between loud or clear.... then why not go for both? ... it IS possible.

Right now im makeing a SQ/SPL car on sort of a budget

For your head unit,get one that has the feats you want and the highest pre outs.

Then get your self one nice 2 channel amp to power the font stage.

i would take that $80+$80 and a little more and spend that on either a 3-way or 2 componet set and screw the rear fill.

Well the sub choice is really up to you,i've always liked the sound of the W7's but its up to you.

also all depends on the box you build,like (THINK THIS IS THE NAEME)a tri-tuned has that nice hard hitting bass but when you turn the sub up all hell breaks loose.

^^as Jordy said. SPL is not for daily listening. You want what is now known as SQL, loud and clear with some thought towards staging and imaging. I'm not of the group that believes SQ is front stage, and imaging only. I like rear speakers and rear sound, so it all depends on what you like. Loud and clear are pretty easy to do, the staging/imaging part is a little harder, but still not too bad.

dont listen to them dude, my daily set up hit 151.5 on the termlab, sounds tight, tuned to 33hz. cost more than $500/$500 for the amps and subs tho....

Tri Tuned is basicly a big ported box. generaly you only have to use 1 sub. There are 2 chambers and 3 ports. 1 port in the sub chamber one in a port chamber and a port between the sub chamber and the port chamber.

it is called tri-tuned because each port helps the other one out through the range of Freq.

I think i have seen a few pics of one on the site before. They work really well, and you won't need a big expensive sub to make it loud.

If i am right, Staging is the place ment of the speakers and Imaging would be the speakers time alinement, phase, crossover point, things like that. unless i got them backwards.

Do you mind me asking what your current set-up is?

151.5 is too crazy for me (for now at least)
My goal would be to pass 139.5dB (my last hit on an old entry-level set-up)
