Ok,
The spider for my new subwoofer came loose. Not sure how, as I have the gains at minimum, and have not cranked her too loud yet. Either way, I was informed to buy some Crazy Glue Gel and try to reattach it.
The spider came loose from the basket, so I used some Crazy Glue today to put it back down.

I will load the drivers in the box later today or tomorrow and test her out. What could have caused this? As I said in the other post my HU has 2V Preouts, and I had the gain all the way down. I cannot see too much power going to the subs. Also, only one of them did this. I built the box myself, I can test to see if it is not fully sealed. Is this something that could cause this? Any thoughts guys?

without a doubt you had a defective sub.... what brand/model is it ??


At anyrate your fix should work... I would have used epoxy, but cyanoacrylate gel is the next best thing........

Bought it off ebay, I now see why he sold it so cheap.

Hopefully this should fix it, if it comes loose again I will use epoxy next time. If it works with the glue, it was still a good deal. If not, I will be pissed.

The subwoofer was definately new. Hey may have tested it out and heard the flapping sound and decided to pawn it off on someone else. With luck I will find out tonight.

Looks like it is fixed. Loaded and sounds fine.

Question. My sealed box was built far too big. Used a wrong value in the calculator. Should have built it to about .71 CU FT/chamber, built about 1.5 CU FT instead.

Should I rebuild? What will this cause? Bigger better? Bad?

Oversized box = Overexcursion (even at low power) = Ripped or detached spiders.

Maybe the sub was fine when you bought it

Be careful what you wish for...

yeup.. mechanical power handeling may be decreased... and accuracy will also be affected...

on the other hand I might prefer having the lower extension, improved transient response, and lower power compression....

but it all depends on the sub....

at any rate many ppl aim for a Q of .707 but even .5 is fine for me when it comes to subbass.... on the otherhand if you are into sq you may reason to go >1

also the spider should rip before it comes unglued on any decent sub IMO...... if thats how rf builds subs I don't think I'd want one....

No rips and it was only one sub.

I will get a proper sized box before I do anything with the subs. I would prefer a tighter response anyways.
