Infinity Amp Question

I have purchased an Infinity 1211a Monoblock amplifier. The rated power is 854W RMS at 4 ohms or 1300 W RMS at 2 ohms. My questions is what 2 * 12 inch subs would be a good match for this amp? I am currently looking at the Infinity 1230W because they are blowing them out at FS this weekend but I am wondering if they would allow the amp to be used at its potential or if I would have to really turn the gain down. ANY help would be greatly appreciated.

The rating on the 1230W is power handling nominal 300Ws and power handling Max 1200 Ws. Impedance is 4 ohms. Would this amp shred these subs?

That Amp will kill them. And stay away from the 1230W they are a 2 year old model that had major issues.

Thank you for your prompt response. Do you have any suggestions for a 12 inch sub that would work well with that amp and utilize it power the max?

I would like to go to a 2 ohm load so if they are 4 ohm subs I am looking at installing 2 of them. Being in the north my options for auditioning subs are limited hence why I am asking on here.

If loud is what you are after, a Digital Designs DD3512 would fit the bill.

You could run a pair of REAudio SR series 12" drivers. They handle about 300W rms each but are very under rated and half the price of other options. Or a single SE or SX 12" series sub by RE would rock out pretty hard.

If your monoblock has an ajustable HPF, try turning it way up. weve noticed with the smaller infinity amps that turnig the HPF (its only an output for RCA's) frequency. up gives the amp more output. Why this happens is still a mystery to me. This ajustment shouldnt affect the amps output but it does....I guess wierder things have happend

What is your impressions of the KICKER 10" SOLO BARIC 06S10L7-4 L7 ( RMS Wattage: 600) It was suggested by a local shop that if I picked up two of these it would be one of the better matches for the amp. Thoughts? Thanks again for all your help.

It really depends what your goals for the system are. What are your priorities? Getting low, getting loud, or getting great sound quality?

If sound quality is important to you stay away from the square subs. If you want to get lower you might want a bigger driver.

Also, what kind of cash are you looking to spend?

I agree with sticky about the square subs. not the greatest sq but they get very very loud. And I think you will be missing out on the lows if you get some tens so go for the 12" L5's which are also 600wrms each. They are a step down in quality from the L7's but a step up in size and I believe that you would be more pleased with them versus the L7. That is, if you choose to go square.

I am actually interested in sound quality and matching the best sub to the amp I already own (infinity 1211a). The rest of the components I am running is the Infinity Reference Components (6.5 inch and tweeter), and Kappa 6*9's which are powered by an Infinity 7541a (Channel 111 Watts RMS per channel) amp. So it is an entry level system I guess..not high end by any means but decent enough.

As for price well..let's say under $1500 for two subs? Is that reasonable?

Does anyone have a take on the Kicker Comp VX subs versus Alprine Type X (sound quality)? Would 650 RMS per sub be enough to actually power the Kicker Comp VX decently?

If I decided to just go for base the DS12L5 would seem like a good option. (Kicker sub box and two S12L5 Subs). How are the boxes made by the speaker company themselves?

Thanks for all your help again and putting my endless questions..I appreciate it.
