I'm working on finalizing the plans for my electrical system now, and I have decided to go with 6 6volt battaries, each 600 CCA, for 2 sets of 3 in series. This will give me 18volts (it will be running slightly under so the 18.0V max rule in Super Street should not be broken). Now I want to keep the car in super street, so I cannot have more than 2 alternators total. Originally, I had planned to have the stock alternator, to run the car's 12v system, and two extra alternators on their own circuits running at 18v. However, something needs to change in my planning to acomadate the 2 alternator rule. Is there any way I can run my stock electrical off one of the 18 volt battary banks, without blowing things such as the ECU etc? Any suggestions?

Oh btw, system is 4 Visonik V900XD amps, 2 pairs strapped into 1 ohm load, and 2 Beyond Audio Inhuman 18s. The Visoniks product considerably more power at 17-18volts.

you have to remember that any alternator will not charge an 18.0volt battery. you need about 2 more volts past that to charge it. and you're probably at 18.9. also, if your amps haven't been moded, chances are it only has 16 volts anyways. check that there 18volts. so that's your second problem. third is, should you solve these 2 problems, you can run the alternator directly to the batteries without having to use the ground of any connections through the car. that's how my husband has his system hooked up. his alternator powering ground wires go directly to his 8 batteries. remember you have to check your amps internal caps that they aren't 16 volt caps because if not you'll blow your caps or never get out of protection mode. you may never even find a battery charger that will not go past 18 volts unless you go into an industrial sized one. you maybe lucky and find an alternator that full fields at 18 volts. but make sure you have a good rectifier to control it and adjust your rmps so that it actully full fields at 18 ( must be under 2000 rmps as you already know ). i may not be 100 percent completely sure what i'm giving you, but i know my husbnad went with a 14 volt system ( 2 - 6 volts and 2 - 8 volts)only because his amps internal caps were 16 volts and he did not want to mod it. he went with the stock amp. i hope this helps out. good luck. keep us posted on your progress. you gotta remember that 3-6 volts batteries in series won't give you 18 volts.It will give you way over 18volts(2.11 volts per cell X 9), and unless you drain the batteries first ( bad idea) you will always be over 18 volts and disqualify yourself at any show that they measure your volts. plan carefully before your proceed and make sure it's the right path for you. research is the best thing you can do before spending all your money.

Thanks for the imput guys and girls [img]smile.gif[/img] As far as the grounding is concerned, I have 8 runs of 0/1 wire to the place where the battaries are going, 4 for ground, and 4 for power. This will provide me with a closed circuit loop in no way connected to the stock system/chassis. In terms of the amps, they are Visonik V900XDs, which are rated at 17 volts, so I assume they will take 18 fine. I really want to run a 16 volt setup, with 4 8 volt battaries. Only problem is, I can only get my hands on 6 and 12 volts here in Newfoundland, hence the 18 volts. Any ideas on how to get some 8 volt battaries? Then it will be a 16 volt system, and I can charge with 18 volts or so, and not be afriad of being over 18 volts at comps.

For alternators your best bet is to get 2 that are fully adjustable.

If you want to do 18 volts then run 2 8volts which will give you a resting voltage of about 17.4.
