Would installing xovers in the trunk be ok?

Just picked up a set of Alpine Type X 6.5 Comps and I'm wondering if there would be any problems with installing the crossovers in the trunk and running the wires up to the comps from there.

I got my crossovers in the trunk and don't see how it could be a problem. Just make sure to use some good 12-14 gauge speaker wire.

Generally the closer the crossover can be to the driver the better. HAving said that - many people put them in the trunk and have no issues.

Can you please elaborate on the "better" part in terms of sound reproduction?

If your talking about active crossovers, passive ones don't need to be in the trunk.

Sorry F1 the Dukkster is correct as usual, they belong as close to the amp and speakers as possible (shorter wire runs are preferred). BUT if the amp is in the trunk then the x-over in the trunk makes a little more sense. The fewer runs and the shorter the runs the lower the resistance and there is a smaller possibility of induced noise (it will also cost less). I STILL do not recommend mounting in the doors though others disagree.

I don't know what your problem is, but I'll bet it's hard to pronounce.

^ All good advice there. Theory would say that a proper passive crossover is tuned to the characteristics of the driver. Adding 15-20feet of speaker wire changes things - not much, but it does. I suppose if one was really picky they could account and correct for it.

Again - this is for purists. If all you are doing is tossing in the box-stock passives that came with a set of speakers, well, they can pretty much be put wherever - it won't make much, if any, difference.
