Gold-plated two phono jacks to 3.5mm (1/8") mono phone plug

AND

Gold-plated dual mini coupler. For connecting two 3.5mm (1/8") mini phone plugs

just seems strange there isn't any single devices I've come across that do what I want, I need to combine two items to get the job done. Is it really that unusual to do what I'm trying here?[/quote]

yes, it is unusual.

Most people want to plug into their mp3 player and send signal to their home stereo or car audio.

And going back to my first post... you need more sub.
At volume 5 (of 25) you can start feeling the sub.
By 10, it's right there.
At 25, your chest feels funny after a while.

Keep in mind, my car is NOT an SPL rig, and I am not claiming it's incredibly loud, just that it's balanced.

Agreed. Every piece of equipment I have seen has female jacks - that's why peripheral equipment (headphones, microphones) cables and adaptors and whatnot all tend to have male jacks.

the seat cushion has the ability to plug into a mp3 player or similar device through the headphone jack but I want to use the signal from my head unit instead

Right - and since the seat is a peripheral (no different than headphones) it has a male plug to plug into a female jack on the audio equipment.
